Ethan Taylor (centre) brought home both goals for Charles F Broome in the other semifinal.

Zone 4 rematch for BICO final

AFTER breaking even when they met up in the prelims, Charles F Broome and St. Cyprian’s Boys will have a chance to settle the score once and for all as they both booked spots in the final of the 2016 BICO National Sports Council Primary Schools Football Competition. Securing their berths in yesterday’s semifinals at the National Stadium, the two will be sailing uncharted waters together as they both roll into the finals for the first time ever.

St. Cyprian’s were first to advance as they dismissed Bay Primary with a two-goal win. Bay Primary’s Amir Gustave, who is currently the leading scorer in the competition, was unable to make any magic for his team as they remained goalless at the end of the exchange.

With both teams missing a a few chances early on in the match, it was not until the 17th minute that St. Cyprian’s got the breakthrough. Only at the behest of Coach Ramon Greaves, Seth Jones chased down a loose ball on the right flank that was destined to go over the goal line. After saving the ball, Jones cut a sharp cross that rolled across the goal-mouth. Bay Primary’s custodian, Michael Browne made a dive at the ball but pushed it into the nets.

Two minutes later, the St. Cyprian’s supporters were off their feet again as Dominic Downes gave his team a second goal. Being fed a ball to the left of the box by Marcus Whittington, Downes found himself facing Browne and made a smart push to the far-post.

The story was almost the same when Charles F Broome came up against Arthur Smith in the other semi. The final score was two goals to none as well as Ethan Taylor knocked home both goals inside the first ten minutes. Arthur Smith, who have played smart football throughout the season, were unable to ever get comfortable as they were disheveled by the aggression and power of the Charles F side. Taylor netted in the fourth and eighth minutes, but neither team could finish for the remainder of the game.

St. Cyprian’s and Charles F now have their sights set on the final which is slated for Friday morning at the National Stadium.
