West Terrace advance in NSC Pine Hill Dairy Netball

A true dominant performance by the West Terrace School’s Netball team have seen them advance to the second round of the National Sports Council’s Pine Hill Dairy Primary Schools’ Netball competition.

With ten points at the top of the Angela Gibbs and Anna Shepherd Zone, West Terrace have yet to lose a game for the competition, winning five out of five so far for the season. Not only have they remained unbeaten, but have only allowed a solitary goal for the tournament, which came in the 13-1 victory over St. Stephen’s Primary. Yesterday, they cemented their place at the top with the best performance of the competition to defeat Good Shepherd Primary 14-0.

The half-time score was 7-0 and Good Shepherd were unable to score in the second half as well, while West Terrace equalled their first half tally. Sierra Rayside had a good day on the court and shot four of six from the field, while Nalanni Cumberbatch was almost perfect with two of three. However, Skye Spencer-Layne was the main scorer in the game for West Terrace, scoring more than half the team’s points to finish with stats of eight of ten.

West Terrace lead the top four teams which advanced to the second round from that zone, which is the only one so far to complete the first round of games. Hillaby Turner’s Hall advanced with the second-highest point total of seven followed by St. Joseph Primary with six and St. Stephen’s Primary with three points.

St. Stephen’s edged out Grazettes Primary for the final spot after beating them 1-0 in their final match yesterday at Bridgefield.

In the Pamala Proverbs Zone, Ellerton had a horrid day of Netball with three losses in one day. They lost two at a score-line of 3-0 and one at 2-0. They went down to Blackman and Gollop Primary, Mount Tabor Primary and finally St. Bernard’s Primary.

St. Bernard’s Primary needed the 2-0 win to help ease their wounds, having been dismissed 6-0 earlier in the morning by Cuthbert Moore Primary. In the game, Cuthbert Moore were already up 2-0 at the break and went on to blank the opposition with four more in the second half. Zariah Mascoll was the toast of the town, shooting five of six while Aaliyah Stoute shot one of four from the field. (AS)
