Wales, BDF hoping to hold top spots

Weymouth Wales and the Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme will come out swinging today if they expect to stay at the top of the standings in the Barbados Football Association’s Digicel Premier League.

Holding the first two spots in the league on ten points, both teams will be looking for wins today as they will not want to give way to allow the other a clear edge in the race for the title.

Wales is first with three wins and a draw in their four games. They stand just above the many-time champions due to goal-difference as the soldiers are also unbeaten four games in. Rendezvous is looking good early on in the race as the they are next in line with nine points. They, however, have played four games to get there and three wins and a loss see them to the total. Clayton’s Kola Tonic Notre Dame also have themselves in contention as they have the same nine points as Rendezvous.

Crane and Equipment Ellerton are not doing too badly after their promotion to the top-tier and they round out the top-five with five points. The campaign thus far sees them racking up a win, two draws and a loss. The defending champions University of the West Indies Blackbirds have their work cut out for them if they intend to take the title again this year, as they are in the bottom half of the league on four points off one win, one draw and two losses.

Phone Repair Medic Belfield and Paradise both have the same four points as the Blackbirds and languish in seventh and eighth respectively.

One-time giants Brittons Hill find themselves in the red with a single point from a draw. They were on the receiving end of beatings in the other three games which sees them currently facing relegation.

Home Improvement and Hardware Supplies Waterford Compton are at the bottom of the barrel. They were the other team promoted from Division 1 last year and unless they wish to head back there, they have to turn around their fortunes. They have been beaten in all four of their games.

Today’s action kicks off at the National Stadium from 4 p.m. with Wales taking on the embattled Compton.
At 6:00 p.m. Ellerton and the Blackbirds lock horns; while Brittons Hill and the BDF Sports Programme go at it at 8 p.m.
