Two more book their place in Primary School cricket quarter-finals

 

An impressive five-wicket haul by R’Jai Gittens from Reynold Weekes piloted his team to the quarter-finals with a victory over St. Winifred’s at Dover yesterday in the National Sports Council’s Guardian Group Herman Griffith Primary Schools’ Cricket competition.
 
Gittens took five wickets for a mere five runs and was well supported by Azaen Bennett as they toppled St. Winifred’s for 32 runs.
 
In reply they cruised to the victory without losing a wicket, with Micah Greendige scoring an unbeaten 18 runs.
 
In the other playoff game St. Giles registered a 68-run victory over St. Bernard’s Primary to book their place in the quarter-finals.
 
Batting first St. Giles was led by Sasken Marshall and Reveria Cottle who each scored an undefeated 39 runs and 37 runs respectively as they helped their team post a score of 117 off their allotted overs.
 
In reply St. Bernard’s could only manage 49 runs before being bowled out. Leading the bowling attack for St. Giles were Zachary Dottin with two wickets for five runs and Mark Davis with two wickets for two runs.
 
Today will see the last play-off being contested at Briar Hall and it will be between Gordon Greendige and St. Christopher.
 
Two quarter-final matches will also be on today as Eden Lodge takes on St. James Primary at Friendship and then Bayley’s Primary battles St. Cyprian’s at Dover. (CG)
