Top-tier title a possible wrap tonight

THE 2017 race could be decided tonight if all the ducks fall in line for Weymouth Wales. With the Barbados Football Association’s Digicel Premier League winding down to the last few games, the 2016 Champions Cup winners could be adding another title to their tally if everything goes their way.

Wales have a date with the third-placed Rendezvous in tonight’s night-cap game. With both teams on 16 games, the Carrington Village-based team lead the table with 37 points after racking up 11 wins and four draws. Rendezvous are no pushover as they have taken 10 wins and four draws for themselves this season.

Still in the running and hoping that Wales slip up are the four-time winners Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme. The soldiers are licking their chops at the prospects of taking back the title, having won 10 games and drawn four in their 16 games. The Sports Programme are set to face Clayton’s Kola Tonic Notre Dame at 6 p.m.

The Dames will be looking to put a hole in the plans of the soldiers in tonight’s game, despite being out of the title race. They are currently fourth with 25 points from 16 games. Seven wins and four draws account for their points, but they will be hoping to add a bit more in their last two games.

The only way to go for the University of the West Indies Blackbirds is down from fifth place as they have maxed out their 18 games. An even split of six wins, six draws and six losses sees them to 24 points. Paradise are next in line and can easily go past the defending champions as they have 24 from seven wins and three draws, and have two games left to play.

Crane and Equipment Ellerton and Brittons Hill both have a game left to play as they hover just over the relegation zone. Ellerton have 17 points from four wins and five draws, while Brittons Hill are on 12 with two wins and six draws.

Top-flight debutantes Home Improvement and Hardware Supplies Waterford Compton United still have a chance to get out of the red as they have two games to play. They have 11 points from three wins and two draws. Phone Repair Medic Belfield could possibly be headed back to Division 1 after working their way up to the Premier League in 2016. They are at the bottom of the barrel with just eight points from two wins and two draws in 16 games.

Tonight’s action kicks off at the Wildey Astro Turf at 4 p.m. with Compton taking on Paradise while the soldiers and Dames, and Rendezvous and Wales follow.
