Football action returned the the communities this weekend as the 2016 David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic continued on Friday and Saturday. With games being played at Deacons, Bagatelle and Belfield, the chase for early points is on.

St. James South were big winners when they took on St. John at Deacons on Friday night. They ran away to a massive five-one victory headlined by a hat-trick from D’Angelo Ward. Ward started the show in the 9th minute while Rashad Smith (25th) and Jamal Prescod (34th) followed suit to make it three-nil before the halftime break. Ward scored two more in the 50th and 79th to seal the deal. It was only in the 83rd that St. John stole a consolation through Damion Husbands.

St. Michael North-East were the home team at the venue and they were able to pick up three points against St. George South. The visitors struck first in the 32nd compliments Baggio Bruce, but rotten luck would be their undoing as an own-goal from Kayden Bailey-Edwards in the 48th left the hosts ending up on even terms. It was late in the exchange that the home side pulled out the go-ahead goal. Ricardo Carter found the nets in the 88th to give his team the game-winner.

On Saturday night, draws were the order of the night at Bagatelle as St. Michael South-East, St. Philip South, St. James Central and the City of Bridgetown all left with a single point each. St. Michael South-East had to fight their way back to a one-all draw after St. Philip South tipped the scales in the 14th minute through Mark Bushell. It was not until the second half that Carlos Barnett rocked the nets in the 59th to bring things level again.

St. James Central and City played to two goals apiece with the latter working their way back from a two-goal deficit. Damon Ifill put St. James Central on the board in the 30th and five minutes later, a slip up from Zico Phillips gave St. James a free goal. Phillips was able to redeem himself, this time scoring at the right end in the 61st minute. Dwayne Stanford drew things level two minutes later.

Over at Belfield, St. Michael South took a one-nil win from St. Andrew with a 44th-minute goal from Zeco Edmee. The night’s other game had a bit more going on as St. Michael West beat out neighbours St. Michael West-Central, three goals to one. Josiah Hinds put on West Central in the 20th minute but that was as far as their fortunes would carry them. Jabarry Carrington leveled things up in the 41st before the interval. When the teams switched sides, Carrington scored again in the 50th to give West the lead. Kemar Headley was there in the 89th to secure the two-goal win.
