St. Michael North-West take National Junior title

It was a single goal that decided the match when St. Michael North-West and St. Michael East locked horns in the Errol Barrow Day final of the National Junior Football Tournament. With both teams slugging their way through the competition which saw 251 goals across 48 games, it was St. Michael North-West that came away winners after a golden goal from captain Kavian Inniss.

The strike came just about halfway through the first 30-minute half after the speedy forward found himself approaching the box with the ball. The St. Michael East keeper Devon Sam moved off his line to take the challenge to Inniss along with two of his defenders. Inniss let off a shot just inside the box before Sam reached him. However, Sam misjudged the attempt and the ball got past him. Regaining his footing and giving chase, Sam was not able to cover the ground as Inniss ran past him to ensure the ball found its mark at the back of the nets.

With the pressure on, St. Michael East missed out on several opportunities to draw things level in both halves. Failing to do so, even after coming close on numerous occasions, St. Michael East went down in the painfully close final.
