Netball series: Barbados win third and final game

THE THIRD and final game of the Barbados Netball Invitational series between St. Vincent and Barbados saw Barbados winning a hard fought third and final game at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex 55-46 and win the series 3- 0.
For the final game on Sunday Latonia Blackman started on the offense circle and scored the first goal for Barbados.
There was a see-saw battle in the opening quarter as the visitors used the lob into the shooting circle with huge success and it saw Barbados two goal lead wiped out and give St. Vincent their first lead of the game 12-11 lead late in the quarter.
The visitors closed out the quarter leading 13-12.
Barbados opened the second quarter with a 4-1 run which gave them the 16- 13 lead before St. Vincent erased that lead with a run of their own and level the game at 16-16.
But then Barbados started to pull ahead and led at the halfway stage 31-23. In the third quarter St. Vincent began to close the gap and scored 9 goals to 4.The visitors continued to chip away at the lead and leveled the scores 38-38 with just over two minutes in the quarter left. Barbados held a slender advance of 41-38 at the end of the third quarter.
In the final quarter Barbados did not allow St. Vincent any closer and went on to sweep the series 3-0 with a 55-46 when the final whistle went in the third game. (CG)
