Jones, Evelyn shine over weekend

Jonathan Jones and Tristan Evelyn were big winners over the weekend for their respective Universities in America.

Jones was crowned the Big 12 Indoor Champion in the Men’s 400m with a time of 45.90 seconds.

Jones also won the 400 metres (45.78 seconds) earlier in the month at the Tiger Paw Invitational held in Clemson and the Razorback Invitational held in Fayetteville in 46.04 secs.

Tristan Evelyn completed the double winning the 60 metres and 200 metres to claim the titles at the 2020 American Indoor Championships held on February 28-29.

Evelyn a senior at Houston ran a time of 7.31 seconds for first-place in the 60-meters running out of lane four to run back and pass Caisaja Chandler (7:35 seconds) in the later part of tse race to win.

She had tears of joy after the race during her after race interview. She mentioned that she had suffered from a lot of injuries and had to sit out sometimes, and also that she wasn’t able to train how she would have liked.

Later she clocked the fourth fastest time in programme history in the 200 metres of 23.16 seconds. She ran in the second of the final heats. Running out of Lane 5, Evelyn quickly made up the stagger of the athlete on her outside and held her form to hold off a late charging Chandler (23.22 seconds) who once again had to settle for second place.

Also earlier this month Mario Burke who finished second in the Men’s 60 metres Final with a Season Best time of 6.64 seconds at the Czech Indoor Gala. (CG)
