Horse racing resumes with a 10 race card

The Barbados Turf Club (BTC) will be holding it’s first race day for 2021, tomorrow, June 18, and 10 races are carded to be run at the Garrison Savannah, with post time for the first race being 12:30pm.

The feature race on the card is race nine, the Welcome Back (Handicap) for 3-year-olds & Older rated 140 and below, going 1570 metres, which is scheduled to be run at 4:30pm.

Eight horses have taken entry, With Celestial Storm being allotted the top weight of 128 pounds, while Bodie Tap takes 127, and Gandalf 114 pounds.

Race fans will be looking forward to the resumption of racing, which like so many other sports, not only in Barbados, but world wide have suffered the effect of a shut down due to the Covid-19 virus.

After having several meetings with the COVID-19 Monitoring Unity, the BTC were finally given permission to start the 2021 season from this Friday, but understandably, at this early stage of resumption there are restrictions, as spectators will not be permitted to attend, and there will be a heavy presence of police to monitor this.

However, the BTC has put a few things in place for race fans and punters to see the races. They will be shown on MCTV channel 118, also on the BTC’s  website, ‘watch live racing’.

There will be pre-racing betting at the BTC from 8:00am until 3:00pm today, and from 7:00am to 10:30am tomorrow. (CH)
