Guyana Jags maroon CCC at Kensington

The Guyana Jaguars and Raymon Reifer had a fine time on Saturday as the 2017 WICB Regional Super50 Championship continued.

Playing at Kensington Oval in the shadow of the Barbados Pride/ICC Americas match at the University of the West Indies 3Ws Oval, the Jags halted their losing streak to pick up their first win against the Combined Colleges and Campuses Marooners. Rolling into the day-night contest after two losses in their opening games, the Jaguars were able to bounce back with a solid eight-wicket win.

The Marooners won the toss and elected to bat. Close to three hours later, the entire order was back in the pavilion for 129 runs after using up 44.5 overs. Opener Amir Jangoo failed to make an impression and waddled back to the dressing room for a duck in the third over after facing six balls.

Kyle Corbin came in at that point to join captain and keeper Jamal Smith, and the pair struck up a 44-run partnership, which was broken with the dismissal of Corbin. He along with Smith were the top-scorers with 28 and 25 respectively. Ryan Hinds also chipped in 18 towards the total, while Nino Henry and Vikash Mohan added 16 and 13 respectively.

Corbin gifted his scalp to Ronsford Beaton, who ended with 2-23 in his eight-over spell. Devendra Bishoo also took two wickets but at the expense of 28 runs. The star of the night with the ball, however, was Veerasammy Permaul. He claimed three for 19 in 10 overs, one of which was a maiden.

Chasing 130 for victory, the Jaguars brushed off the target rather comfortably. The highlight of the innings was the run-a-ball 67 from Reifer who smacked nine fours and a six to bolster his team to 130 for two in 26.3 overs. After Assad Fudadin was caught behind by Smith off the bowling of Christopher Powell, Reifer made his way to the crease to steer his team to victory. He joined forces with Rajindra Chandrika (43*) to bring up a whopping 117-run partnership that was only broken when Reifer went down to Jermaine Levy.
