Falcons fly high at Graydon Sealy

Recent tradition held strong at the National Stadium yesterday as the Blue House Falcons picked up a third win on the trot when Graydon Sealy Secondary held their annual inter-house athletics meet. Allowing Orange House a win in 2014, Blue have been running things since 2012 and a haul of 951.5 ensured victory in 2017.

With a host of events completed prior to yesterday’s action, the Falcons came into the day with 638.5 points before racking up a lead of 120 just before the relays for an all but unassailable lead. When the dust had settled, Blue were still up front to leave the Green House Hornets in second with 839.5. The Falcons put an extra 30 points between them throughout the day as the Hornets came to the stadium with 558.5 points.

With the real fight at the top, the Yellow House Tigers led the rest of the pack, coming home with 449 points. The Red House Lions narrowly missed out on third as they ended the day with 443, while The White House Sharks and the Orange House Phoenixes also came in close to each other with 376 and 363 respectively.

Helping the Hornets to second place was Victor Ludorum Kymarley Cruickshank. He raked in a total of 71 points for Green House in Division 4 by winning the Junior Boys 3000 Metre, the 800 Metre and 400 Metre. He also finished second in the 200 Metre and Long Jump, while taking third place in 1500 Metre an 100 Metre events.

His female counterpart came from Division 3 and Ariel Baird medaled in all of her events to come away with 65 points for Orange House. She was first in the 100, 200 and 800 Metre events, while taking Silver in the Long Jump, Discus and 1500 Metre. She rounded out her performance with third places in the High Jump and Javelin.

The champions only took two titles with Rianna Clarke and Takara Bryan topping the Division 2 and 1 Girls respectively. Clarke racked up 62 points with wins in the 100, 400 and 800 Metre events and the Long Jump and High Jump. She finished third in the 1 500 Metre. Bryan had 65 points in the top division with wins in the 100, 200, Long Jump and High Jump. She also proved herself a force to be reckoned within the throws as she was second in the Discus, Javelin and Shot Putt.

Green House had two more champions with Jadon Jones (Division 1 Boys) and Justin Gittens (Division 3 Boys) topping their groups. Jones was good for 47 points with wins in the Long Jump and Shot Putt, a second place in the Javelin and a third in the High Jump. Gittens brought in 45 with wins in the Long Jump, Discus and Shot Putt and he finished third in the 400 Metre.

Another Jadon, this time McCollin, made sure that the Lions were not left out of the action and he picked up the Division 2 title with wins in the 100, 200, 800, Long Jump and Triple Jump on his way to 59 points. White House also got their hands on a championship as Nakya Ward picked up 42 points in Division 4 Girls. She was second in the 100, 200 and Long Jump and came first in the 400.
