Defending Under-16 Schools’ Basketball champions start on top

Harrison College A have won two straight to start their campaign in the 2017 Co-operators General Insurance Junior Under-16 Basketball League competition.

In association with the National Sports Council, the competition is smoothly under way. College took down Lodge School in a serious showing of power on the court. The half-time score stood at a whopping 34-6, with College taking no prisoners against the country team. Lodge played well in last year’s competition, but against the likes of Harrison College, things looked bleak from beginning to end.

The second half was better for the Lodge scoring 19 points, but College scored 31 at the other end, which placed the final score at 65-25. Simeon Maynard top-scored with 16 points for College, with Chikosi Boardi finishing with 11. Justin Bayley and Kenyon Connell also contributed 10 points apiece in the win. For the Lodge, Christian Jordan ended the game with 8, with Julian Forde and Jaquan Bridgeman scoring six each.

The second victory came against Deighton Griffith and was more of a challenge for the side. At half-time, the score stood at 16-5 with Deighton not getting off to a very good start. They were able to match College point for point in the second half, but in the end made no inroads into the lead and the match ended 36-25.

Combermere and Graydon Sealy also have started with two wins this season to make the competition look keen. Combermere defeated Foundation 38-21, holding off the opposition after a 19-4 half-time score. Next up were Lodge, and Combermere were ready and willing to hand them their second loss of the season. The Waterford side dispatched the opponents by 15 points, 46-31, with Justin Bramao scoring a game-high 22 points and Aaron Harris scoring 12 for Combermere. Jordan once again top-scored for his side with 10.

Graydon Sealy edged Deighton Griffith in a close game 27-23, but then blew Foundation off the court in their second game 49-14. The command on the court by Graydon Sealy was outstanding, holding Foundation to three points in the second half. Ronaldo Simmons top-scored in the game for Graydon with 17 and Tyreke Harewood and Christopher Harewood finished with 12 and 10 respectively. Delano Waithe played well for Foundation to finish with 7 points. (AS)
