Defending champs to face losing 2015 finalist in semis

 

A replay of last year’s final is set for Friday when the 2016 Cave Shepherd/Berger Royale/A1 Supermarkets National Primary Schools’ Road Tennis Championship hosts their semi-finals.
 
Defending champion St. Cyprian’s Boys’ will battle George Lamming in the team semi-finals at the Rubis Ground.
 
Yesterday in the quarter-finals, George Lamming in the final game of the evening battled from a match down to win against Westbury 2-1. Akeem McCollin went down to T’Shawn Weekes from Westbury who is also in the individual semis in a nail-biting match 22-20.
 
However, George Lamming came back strong in the remaining two matches with Aaron Weatherhead cruising past Tyrese King 21-15 and Damani Blenman mesmerising Romario Narisse to win 21-9. St. Cyprian’s also booked their passage to the semis with a 2-1 victory over West Terrace.
 
Two run-away victories was enough for St. Cyprian’s as Aidan Parris defeated West Terrace’s Kebra Bruce 21-4, while Marcus Whittington (St. Cyprian’s) was also in a no-nonsense mood dismissing Jonathan Harmon 21-7.
 
Pulling one game back for West Terrace was Azahri Dallaway with a 21-13 victory over Khalil Nurse.
 
St. Jude’s blanked St. Stephen’s 3-0 when they met in the quarter-finals. Individual semi-finalist Tyrease Holder from St. Jude’s got things off to a good start for his team when he defeated Mikhail Grant-Bennett from St. Stephen’s 21-15.
 
With the momentum clearly in the favour of St. Jude’s, Jaheem Elliott crushed Azarie Clarke 21-2 before D’Angelo Grosvenor finished off the contest 21-19. Suave Clarke from St. Stephen’s to give St. Jude’s a clean sweep.
 
Their opponents will be Wesley Hall Juniors (WHJ) who defeated St. Philip in the quarter-finals.
 
N’Tari Haynes (WHJ) defeated Jeremiah Small 21-13, while Edwin Barnett (WHJ) followed with a victory over Kanye Wharton 21-12. The sweep was secured when Christopher Lestrade (WHJ) defeated Dequon Toppin 21-11.
 
The semi-finals of the team and individual are slated for Friday at the Rubis Ground. (CG)
