Defenders take tops in 8-Ball finals

Things went down to the wire this past Sunday night as Defenders fought tooth and nail to take home the championship in the Barbados Pool Development Organisation’s Team 8-Ball competition. Coming up against Eastern Sports Club in the final at Mr. Q’s Sports Bar, Defenders outplayed their opponents to end with six points to their four.

Getting started with ten teams, the tournament came down to the final four after nine weeks of intense competition. In Saturday night’s semifinals, Defenders beat Crazy 8’s, while Eastern Sports Club got the better of Q-Bandits, with both teams rolling into the next day’s finals with six-nil scorelines.

In the third-place playoff, Q-Bandits and Crazy 8’s were both on point before the former pulled away to a three-one lead. The 8’s fought back to three-all but the Bandits would be having none of it and won three straight to take the win at six-three.

The big face-off saw both teams alternating one-point leads till the Defenders led at five to Eastern’s four. With a possible two games remaining Damian ‘Blue’ Batson decided to cut the fight short and came out with the win for Defenders and take the score to six to four cementing the Defenders’ unbeaten streak for the 2016 season.
