Deacons cruise to victory

Five set thriller won by Carlton

It took five sets to decide a winner as Carlton took on The Club at Kensington bond in the Barbados Volleyball Association’s Division One League championship.

Carlton looked as though they would cruise to a straight set victory after winning the first two hard fought sets of the match 27-25, 25-19. However, then The Club came back strong and put them on the back foot as they won the third set 26-24.

The fourth set saw The Club pulling their way back from as far down as 7-0 to not only passing by winning the set comfortably at 25-17.

Carlton had seen enough and injected their captain Janelle Morris who was sitting on the bench having picked up an injury about a week ago.

The injection worked as Carlton led 10-5 in the fifth and deciding set. However, as they did in the fourth, the Club came back strong and pulled to within two points 11-9, before they were able to deuce the game 14-14.
The two sides traded points, but it was two unforced errors that gave the game to Carlton 17-15 just when the game looked set for a lengthy see-saw fifth set battle.

In the earlier match-up Deacons defeated Chargers in straight sets 25-11, 25-17, 28-26.
