Close victory for Welches over West Terrace

THE rain interrupted match between West Terrace and Welches Primary went down to the wire when the two teams met at the Desmond Haynes Complex.

Playing in Round 6 of the Guardian Group Herman Griffith Primary Schools’ Cricket Competition West Terrace was bundled out for 68 runs in the 14th as they did not get to bat out the 25 overs.

Leading the bowling was Kemar Dixon who took four wickets for 13 runs. He was well supported by Azico Brich 2-22 and Jaden Belle 2-7.

The rain came twice and stopped what was looking like a comfortable victory for Welches. Cruising along on 41/0, Welches started to loss wickets in chunks as they captain who looked like he was striking the ball well was dismissed for 12 runs.

Moving away from the pace and going to their slower bowlers as they could not afford the extras, West Terrace was led by right arm bowler Zarek Greaves who gave the ball some flight to take four wickets for just 10 runs.

Pace bowler Najai Ward took two wickets for 15.

With only one wicket left Welches managed to get across the finish line as the extras and the low score to defend was the undoing of West Terrace whose winless streak continue this season.

Welches claimed victory in the 23rd over with a boundary to finish on 71/9.
