Chargers stop Cawmere’s run

Deacons winless

Flow Deacons men’s volleyball team have lost their third consecutive match in the Goddard’s Enterprises Barbados Volleyball Association’s Knock Out competition.

Coming up against Barbados Bearing and W. Gittens Landscaping Progressive, Deacons had most of their regular players back in the line up. Leading early in the set Deacons saw their lead evaporate and then Progressive leading at one stage. Deacons who have been perennial contenders had to battle to win the set which ended 28-26.

However, the momentum had swung fully in favour of Progressive with the next two sets 25-20, 25-21. With the match on the line, Deacons had to win the fourth set to force the fifth and deciding set out of Progressive who were looking for their second victory of the competition. Despite pulling back the set 25-20 and levelling the match, the fifth set was one sided as Progressive had things their own way to go on to win 15-7 and leave Deacons winless in the competition.

Cawmere’s dream start came to an end when they met the only other team that had a perfect record to date in the competition in the form of Chargers. Cawmere had come from behind to defeat Deacons as well as Progressive but never got that chance against Chargers as they maintained their strangle hold on the game to win in straight sets 25-19, 25-16, 25-23.
Chargers have now won all three of their matches played while Cawmere had three wins and one loss.

In the third men’s game at Oldsbury on Sunday All Stars kept Foundation United at bay as well as winless when they defeated them in five sets 25-8, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-13.
All Stars have two wins and two losses to their record while Foundation United has three losses. (CG)
