Celtics dismiss Senators by 44 points

IT is not often a score-line reads that the Senators are on the losing end of a 44-point loss, but that is exactly what happened at the Pine courts last week when City United Celtics pushed them around in a 93-49 beating.

Playing in the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association First Division competition, City United returned to the league after a couple years. With new faces like Adrian Stuart and Stevenson Callender in the line-up and returning players like the intimidating Sidney “Bouncer” Rowe, City were always going to be a tough ask for any side. However, the Senators have always been a team to do the dismissing, but this time, lack of preparation and fitness was the downfall.

By the second half it was evident that Senators were not ready for the season start and City were running circles around them on the court. The only player for Senators which was putting up any resistance was Anthony Forde and then somewhat Daniel Clement, but when their legs grew weary, the lead ballooned. At half-time, the lead was 40-20 and the lack of fitness had taken its toll already; there was no coming back, even after resting during the break.

Senators did try in the third, scoring 17 points but also allowed 23 at the other end of the floor. The back of the camel broke in the final quarter as Celtics piled on 33 points with Abraham Sealy scoring ten points and Anderson Holder nine. By the end, it was a slaughter for the once powerhouse of a side from Rockley. Callender finished with a game-high 24 points for Celtics in a dominating performance where he made scoring look easy. Holder was good for 18 points while Adrian Stuart finished with 16 points and Sealy 12 for the winning team.

Today at Culloden, ACS United will play Challengers B at 5 p.m. with Police Sports Club taking on Cougars at 6:30 p.m. and finally Spartans against home side Challengers A at 8. (AS)
