Braves manhandle Cavs

The Checker Hall Braves attacked and subdued the Station Hill Cavaliers in a sound beating of a game by a massive 43 points, 26-69 and secured their third win of the league season in the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association First Division competition.

It has not been an outstanding season for the Braves, in fact it was below par. Due to injuries of players and the unavailability of their regular coach, Checker Hall has seen better days. Though this has been true throughout the season, the Braves have still taken care of business when playing against a weaker side. They won against the Pan American International Insurance Warrens Sports Club Junior side by 11 points and then the very next match-up versus the Barbados Youth by 12. Apart from those wins early on in the season, it has been slim pickings.

Station Hill never stood a chance against the Braves and by the time they heard the whistle for the end of the first quarter, the slaughter was well on its way. Checker Hall had held the Cavs to a three-point first quarter and it was only more of the same to come. In fact, the Cavs were unable to score in double digits for any of the four periods of the match-up. While poor offence was going on with the Station Hill team, the Braves were taking turns and scoring at will.

Four players finished in double figures and two just shy. Damien Leacock was the game high scorer with 18 points and the ever active Jamal Scantlebury added 12. Dominik Sobers and St. Clair Forde finished with ten a piece, while Chadd Greaves and Damien Bovell scored nine and eight points respectively. The silver lining for the Cavaliers was Romario Hutson who scored 14 of his team’s 26-point total.

The Braves finished strong with their best quarter of the game with a 26-point fourth quarter to take a big win and maybe a boost to their confidence. Their next match-up will be against Belfield Juniors next Thursday at the Belfield courts at 8 p.m. (AS)
