All in line for YDP/NSC quarterfinals

The stage is set for tomorrow’s quarterfinals in the Youth Development Programme National Sports Council Football Tournament after the last four teams booked their berths as the playoff rounds rage on. With the City of Bridgetown, St. Lucy, St. Michael East and St. Michael North-East advancing off wins on Sunday night, the other spots were filled on Monday night.

Over at Dover, St. Michael South took home the biggest win as they rolled to a 4-1 result over St. George South. The St. Michael side meant business as they had three goals in the back of their opponents’ nets before the break with Tré Mottley recording a brace in the 8th and 14th minutes, while Kevon Lucas knocked home the third in the 28th. Going the other way,

Jacobi Gill got his name on the scoresheet in the 58th while St. George South got their consolation in the 59th minute thanks to Rasheed Gill.

The earlier game at the venue saw Christ Church West-Central sneaking a stamp to the quarterfinals away from St. John with a 1-0 victory. Tyriq Holder had good finish when he found himself in front of the bars, smashing it just under the cross-bar in the 49th minute.

In the games at Brereton, St. Michael South-Central secured their spot in the next round after beating home team St. Philip West at the penalty spot, 3-1. With the game forced into penalties, Ngozi Reid, Jamane Moore and Tyrel Demendonga were good from the spot while Saviola Thomas was the only player to beat the keeper for St. Philip West.

St. Thomas is the other team advancing as they got the better of a strong St. Michael South-East. The St. Michael side took the lead in the 55th minute through Tajio James, however, St. Thomas had a reply in the 57th from Quame Neblett while Kashane Grandison had the game-winner in the 62nd to seal the deal.

The quarterfinals are set for tomorrow at Briar Hall and Brereton from 5:30 pm.
