AS the world laboriously inches closer to getting the COVID-19 pandemic under some measure of control, Barbados’ main income earner seems to be showing some signs of life.
As worldwide vaccine roll-outs inspire some level of confidence, some scenes around Barbados seem to suggest that the local economy may just be primed to bounce back after months of inactivity.
With Barbados being thrown into a second lockdown at the end of last year due to a sharp spike of positive cases, all progress towards the revitalisation of the tourism industry seemed to be lost.
However, despite additional setbacks such as a Level 4 travel advisory issued by the United States Department of State on April 20, another lockdown in the United Kingdom and Europe, and spikes across Canada – the island’s main source markets – Barbados is determined to forge its way forward.
