Lashley, team-mates win Digicel’s grand prize

Rochelle Lashley and her team-mates, Nakila Quintyne and Christopher Reid, are the winners of Digicel’s 2017 My Digicel App, Treasures of Barbados Treasure Hunt.

The team was awarded a cheque of BDS$5 100 for winning this year’s treasure hunt during the prize giving ceremony, which took place on Thursday afternoon in the car park of Digicel’s Headquarters in Warrens.

Congratulating all the participating teams, Lashley expressed how grateful she was to have won the prize despite the weather and difficulty of some questions. Second place went to Eliza Clarke and her family and they were awarded a staycation with double occupancy at the All Seasons Resort. Third place went to Sheri Benjamin and her team-mate, Lenn Brome, and they won a Samsung J7 with BDS$51 in credit.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of Digicel, Alex Tasker, explained that they started the Treasure Hunt early yesterday morning and noted that it was the culmination of their 2017 Independence celebrations.

“For Independence 2017, Digicel recognised the 51st anniversary with a series of initiatives under the theme “Freedom for You” and highlighted the My Digicel App. Our Independence offers gave customers specials on Postpaid and Prepaid Plans, Handsets, Top Ups and Digicel Home services,” he said.

Tasker explained that to qualify for some events, customers could have activated the 30 Day Quick Plan with anywhere minutes via the MyDigicel App; activated any Freedom Postpaid plan and gotten $51 BDS discount off the standard retail price of the Samsung J1 with a one year contract; paid their first three month’s subscription on time or referred a friend and gotten $501 off their next Digicel Home bill after their referred friend’s service was installed.

“All of that led up to our Treasure Hunt today and over 500 participants competing for the BDS$5 100 first prize and other exciting prizes,” he said.

The CEO revealed that the participants braved the rainy weather and traversed the island to “picturesque spots” such as Codrington College, Fisher Pond and Gun Hill, noting that it was both educational and fun.
