DLP General Secretary responds to Opposition’s recent statements

GENERAL Secretary of the ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP) George Pilgrim has said that recent statements by Opposition Leader, Mia Mottley, can be interpreted as a grab for power.

He is also telling Barbadians that they must remember the past episodes of the cries of the current Opposition Leader about democracy reigning within her own party.

Mottley told a news conference over the weekend the feeling among Barbadians as she interacts with them at this time,  is one of being “fed-up”. She urged them not to give up hope.

“People are fed-up and that is the clear message we get throughout the highways, all across this country,” Mottley stated.

“People cannot take anymore and the truth, they feel that the government is drifting and simply hoping that a solution will come along or a miracle will come along...,” she added.

However, Pilgrim said that the Democratic Labour Party of which he is a member,  is committed to solving problems and governing this great nation.

Stating that the DLP does not subscribe to tearing down as a political strategy, Pilgrom said : “I want to sound a call to all Barbadians to treat with caution the news we hear coming for the bowels of the opposition.”

He recalled hearing the Minister of Health having to deny and battle allegations of blood contamination at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and patients having to be shifted for care by soldiers to the BDF.

According to Pilgrim, “This country is under attack by a divided BLP seeking to grab power. I am also calling on members and supporters of this great party to guard and protect this country and by extension, our party by those whose motivation is love of party more than country.” (JB)
