BLP up to the task, says Mottley during press conference

Opposition Leader, Mia Mottley says the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) is ready to face the electorate whenever the date for general election is announced.

Giving the assurance that there is togetherness within the ranks of the party, she said the BLP is “up to the task”.

“We are focused and ready, we said so from the end of October. We had arguably, I think was the largest annual conference that we have seen in the party for over 20 years and the spirit was high. This has been a long journey for us and I know that people initially have been concerned but the truth is that for the last 14 months I want to thank each and every one, not just the Parliamentary party, but all the candidates for ... putting Barbados first and then the party interest.”

Mottley’s comments came last Saturday during a press conference in the office of the Opposition Leader, West Wing of Parliament.

She said the feeling of Barbadians as she interacts with them at this time is that of being “fed-up” and she has urged them not to give up hope.

“People are fed-up and that is the clear message we get throughout the highways, all across this country. People cannot take anymore and the truth, they feel that the government is drifting and simply hoping that a solution will come along or a miracle will come along... ;the
news gets harder to take and I really want to say to Barbadians, especially at the beginning of this new year, I know things are difficult, I know people are suffering, I know businesses are finding it hard to make ends meet but I ask you to keep hope alive. To have confidence that there is nothing wrong with
Barbados fundamentally [and] that a strong dose of leadership, discipline, compassion would not fix.”(MG)
