Put on notice!

Officers of the Tactical Response Unit of the Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF) have been put on notice that there will be a written protocol in place with respect to how they act.

Commandant of the Regional Police Training Centre, Sylvester Louis, alerted them to this while reminding the officers that they “have to recognise the seriousness and importance of your job and must never do anything to compromise the principles, the mission or yourself”.

His comments came while speaking at the joint graduation and closing ceremony for the V.I.P Close Protection & Tactical Firearms Training Courses. Twenty-eight and 34 officers participated in each respectively. The joint ceremony was held yesterday at the Regional Police Training Centre.

Giving some details, Louis said: “There will be protocol abolishing the drinking of alcohol and other things.”

He additionally said: “The protocol will soon be in operation and will set some serious standards.

“For example, again I have seen some Close Protection Officers going on duty without a bullet-proof vest; that will be no more. This is madness ladies and gentlemen, think about it.

This is madness as far as I am concern. For how can you protect your principle if you cannot protect yourself, and please don’t give me this nonsense about Barbados is hot.”

Louis also used the occasion to remind officers about the importance of putting in the time and effort to hone their skills. He additional stated that they are welcome to use the facilities at the Regional Training Centre to do this.

“You can come here whenever you want. We have the facilities for you to train, you can make this your home. We are actually improving our firing range. We built an obstacle course, you can sleep here. We have fire arms here that you can use if you don’t have your own. Please, it is totally impossible for you to be up to mark unless you practice regularly.”
