Sonics down Warriors as Marsh comes alive in third

Akeem Marsh of the Urban Vybz St. John’s Sonics came alive in the third quarter to scorch the court and score 15 of his 33 game-high points and help his team take the lead and the nineteen point, 77-58 win over the Barbados Hilton Resort Warriors in the Co-operators General Insurance Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Premier Competition.

Playing at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex, Marsh continued his onslaught in the fourth quarter with 12 more points as he picked up his game even further, ending with 15 rebounds. 

 

Marsh had been having a quiet game up to half time and the Warriors were having their way with the game and had the half time lead 33-26. The Warriors were out hustling the Sonics on the defensive end as well as the offensive end with Jamar Headley leading the way with his attacking and athletic moves to the basket. Headley topscored for the Sonics with 28 points and he also added 12 rebounds to his contribution on the night. 

 

Marsh and Sonics were unable to keep Headley off the boards and he racked up some second chance points when the Sonics defense failed to box him out. It was not a good scoring night for the Warriors, but Ricardo Toussaint tried his best to support Headley off the bench with ten points and eight rebounds. Toussaint was the only support Headley received however as Corey McDonald and Nickolas King had a horrible game and could only muster six points in total between them.

 

The Sonics didn’t have a great game either but Marsh had better support throughout the game even with the issue of having players in foul trouble. Kevin Robinson had 19 points and five rebounds while Shane Whittaker joined Marsh with a double double of 13 points and 13 rebounds. Dwayne Kellman had a horrible shooting night, going 1 of 10 from the field but Tyrell Clarke filled the void and added 8 points before he fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter. The Sonics looked very lackluster and ordinary for most of the game till Marsh took control of the proceedings. 

 

They will have to work on their secondary scorers inorder to maintain their ranking in the top four. (AS)
