Youth have their say!

Young residents of The City had their say on the way forward for that constituency on Saturday when a Youth Rally was staged.

Dubbed “Real Thing”, it was an initiative of the Democratic Labour Party’s (DLP) candidate for The City, Henderson Williams. It comprised a motorcade which started in Independence Square and culminated in Queen’s Park. In the Park, for individuals had a chance to learn more about educational, training and employment opportunities.

The motorcade travelled through sections of the constituency. These included Nelson Street, New Orleans, Wellington Street and, St. Paul’s Avenue. At different stops, Williams and his team interacted with youth from the community hearing their concerns and solutions.

Speaking to The Barbados Advocate prior to moving off, Williams said one of the aims of the initiative was “really to get young people of The City to air their views on things that affect them.” He further shared that the information gathered will be used for plans for the area.

“We are going to hear from a lot of constituents, young people, about how they see where there are in terms of The City and the things they believe are important to make the step forward in terms of the development of The City.”

The Director of the City Development Foundation added, “It is about the people in The City and what is real to them and ‘The Real Thing’ is ensuring that whomever and however you come to the individual it has to be something that is realistic. It has to be something that is going to be beneficial to them and that [it] is a reflection of us going into the constituency and having conversation with people. They want to know that politicians understand their needs and are willing to meet their needs of the community in a real way.”(MG)
