Watts: Something went wrong

A long standing member of the Democratic Labour Party believes that something went wrong during the recently passed 2018 General Elections.

Astor B. Watts, expressed this view following the conclusion of the first lecture that they would have held at the DLP headquarters yesterday evening. He noted, “something went wrong. I cannot put my finger on it.”

“I need all of you who are present here this afternoon not to throw down your arms and say you can’t try again, never say that!” he exclaimed.

“What we have to do among ourselves is examine and see what went wrong, along with the something that we can’t put our finger on. and see how best we can get ourselves together, put on our vests and gloves and do not argue just be simple, and obedient to the will of the Almighty and I am saying this in your presence, we shall overcome.”

The first lecturer since the General Elections, Ulric Sealy, echoed Watts’ sentiments and went on to give some pointers as to what the party should do next following their crushing defeat through a detailed lecture entitled “Navigating the political party: a repositioning of a political party after defeat.”

One thing he pointed out was that the party should focus now on intensive political campaigning.

“A political campaign is an organised effort, which seeks to influence the decision making process within a specific group. That is what it is all about. It is an organised effort with a purpose,” he said.

“You should do simple, but critical things, such as being in the public’s face as often as you can, organise political information meetings, you can determine when and where. When something is deemed as a political crisis you should be even more so getting out there and getting your side out in the public. You can’t just lay down and play dead until a few weeks before upcoming elections to start mounting platforms.”

He believed that it was paramount for the party to regroup as they moved forward and repositioned the party after this defeat.
