Technology Push

Desktop computers donated to St. Philip Primary School

Selwyn Holder, a former student of St. Philip Primary School has recognised the importance of incorporating technology into student education from an early age.

In August, he donated 30 laptops to students who needed devices, making sure that they were able to partake in online classes and were not left behind.

However, yesterday his nephew Jaron Butcher on his behalf, presented the rural school with four desktop computers and a wireless printer which are located in what is now called “The Selwyn Holder Computer Centre”.

“Holder being a former student of this school, believes that education was the gateway to his success. Having come from the community of Harrow Land, St. Philip not too far from here, he wants to ensure that children from the community have access to computers,” Butcher said, also revealing to Principal Pamaletta Bhamjee that his uncle is currently working on sending COVID-19 supplies and other stationary for the school.

“Holder will continue his efforts to ensure that every child, regardless of status has an opportunity to learn. He is also currently working with members of the Bushy Park Cricket Social Club to offer after school programmes to the children in the community. His intention is not that it stops in the community, but hopes that the teachers of this school will partner with the Bushy Park Cricket Social Club to assist with lessons, extra assignments that may be due and so on, in the development of the students of this school,” it was explained.

To the students, Butcher said that the donor urged that they never give up.

“He asks that you all give your best because hard work brings success. Sometimes you may find it difficult to finish an assignment but never give up, always aim for the sky as it has no limit,” he urged.

The Principal took the opportunity to thank the old scholar for his timely donation.

“We are certainly here at St. Philip Primary School going to make full use of the Selwyn Holder Computer Centre. The children will be using it for music, and our teachers will have the opportunity to come and set their tests and prepare for tests using the computers here in this centre,” Mrs. Bhamjee said.
