Sunday service a tribute to road victims

The numerous persons who have lost their lives on the road in road traffic accidents will be remembered by the Barbados Road Safety Association (BRSA), during Road Safety Month next Sunday.

President of the BRSA, Sharmane Roland-Bowen, says a Remembrance Day Service in honour of the road traffic victims will be held on Sunday November 18th at 9 a.m. at the Bethel Methodist Church and all persons who have lost loved ones are invited to come out and support the initiative.

Roland-Bowen meanwhile noted that the day is significant, as Barbados will be joining with the world to celebrate the “World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims”, which is commemorated on the third Sunday of November each year, to remember the many millions killed and injured on the world’s roads, together with their families, friends and many others who are also affected. It is also a day on which thanks are offered to the emergency services personnel and persons reflect on the tremendous burden and cost of serious and fatal road accidents on families, communities and countries, and also on ways to curb these accidents.

The BRSA has meanwhile noted that during Road Safety Month 2018, great focus is being placed on “drink and drug driving”, as well as the need to assign designated drivers, for those under the influence of alcohol and other drugs. (RSM)
