Store owners optimistic

Yesterday, Barbadians and visitors came to Bridgetown in their numbers to take advantage of the deals and Christmas sales. For several store owners who were closed due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year, the uptick in commercial activity is making them optimistic about the season.

This month, the Canary Lane Mall stores, located at the lower end of Broad Street, have been seeing shoppers looking for those unique and special gifts. The Christian store, Things Gospel, reported that sales were great as their customers shopped for spiritual

literature, inspirational mugs and journals for 2021.

Art, African fashion and crafts are also on sale in this mall with Shamane’s and Africana Fashions showcasing a wide range of jewellery and other apparel.

On the opposite side, the City Centre Mall was a hive of activity. Imperial Gift and Balloons exhibited bags and gift wrapping options for shoppers who do not have the time or skill to wrap that special gift.

Two stores down, the owner of Sarita’s Place told this newspaper, the business which sells baby clothing and accessories only reopened this week and the store’s items were on sale.

While many shoppers will be looking for gifts and food items for the holidays, some people are shopping for that perfect outfit for church or Old Year’s Night. At the Men’s Room, the manager said that business was better than expected with customers buying suits and the popular accessories like the trendy teardrop bow tie. The owner noted that while men were looking for bright colours in 2019, this year most customers were purchasing blue and silver tones for that special occasion.
