St. Joseph water woes improving

The constant water outages which infuriated residents of St. Joseph in recent times have been improving.

Word of this comes from Dale Marshall, Member of Parliament for the rural parish.

“In comparison to what was happening in 2015, this is really a tremendous improvement,” he revealed on the side-lines of The Aron & Christina Foundation tablet presentation ceremony to the class three primary school students in St. Joseph.

“Last year was a challenging year for us and it reached the point where residents felt that they needed to protest publicly, and we had a march – which I think was a very successful community march – in front of the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) Headquarters.”

Marshall however, indicated that even though there was improvement this year, there are some communities in recent months that have been reporting water outages for a day or two. “The Water Authority, I think, has turned around the situation for us but obviously there are improvements that are still required.”

“Perhaps the fact that the community tanks are still in place in all the locations that they have been installed, might be an indicator that we are not yet out of the woods. If we are out of the woods then maybe the BWA would have come and moved the tanks, but they are still there decorating our landscape,” he pointed out.

“I am not a hydrologist, but I think we had an awful lot of rain in the recent months and I recall that Dr. Mwansa said that one of the challenges they had was the fact that we were in a situation of drought. I can’t say if we are still in a drought or not, but I know that for my constituents they have noticed what appears to be an extraordinary amount of rainfall, so I hope that in the [coming] months that they will help to make sure that the reservoirs are in a better state than they were,” Marshall added.
