St. James Community to benefit from Recycling Initiatives

One local business is working with the St. James Central constituency to introduce environment friendly development initiatives.

Yesterday, The Barbados Advocate spoke to Managing Director of Project Recycle Limited, Anderson Cherry about their first initiative which involved a donation of soil for the cricket pitch at Good Shepherd Primary School.

Cherry explained that the soil which is made from recyclable material will be the first of its kind. He also added that the company will be working closely with Democratic Labour Party St. James Central candidate, George Connolly, to teach the community how to compost and recycle.

On behalf of the residents of Fitts Village and the constituents of St. James Central, Connolly expressed his sincere appreciation to Cherry for his assistance with the project.

“Your actions and gifts support my overall strategy and vision for combining civic and community participation, private sector partnership and government co-ordination to solve challenges within our constituencies,” said Connolly.

According to Connolly, resident Carl Chapman and his team wanted to resurface the pitch, however, they were having some challenges getting the soil. With the assistance of DLP candidate, he reached out to Cherry for the material which is made of both earth and recycled materials.

Earlier, the Managing director noted that the aim of the initiatives is to have the entire community with zero waste by 2020.

To start this project, Cherry said that bins will be placed in the community and schools in order to promote recycling and he will be working with them during the two-year period and beyond.

“I can’t give bins to everyone but for sure, the schools will get the donated bins,” Cherry added.
