St. James Central DEO steps up efforts, launches website and Facebook page

St. James Central District Emergency Organisation (DEO) has stepped up its online presence.

Along with improving their Facebook page, a St. James Central DEO website was officially launched by Chairman, Selwyn Brooks at the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), Warrens recently.

The website, stjamescentraldeo.com is designed to give full information on disaster management and emergency planning as well as showcasing what the organisation has done over the last 15 years.
Whereas, the Facebook page forms part of St. James Central’s DEO community outreach efforts, and seeks not only to attract new members, but also to be an up-to-date educational and informational platform.

“The website and Facebook page are primarily informative leading up to the hurricane season but also informative for students and other individuals who have called seeking information. It has an interactive page so during the hurricane season persons can interact with us, and we hope that our response time for this during that season would be 24 hours,” he pointed out.

“We know that this year we are more likely to have an above-average hurricane season. We saw what happened in the Caribbean last year, and we believe that with this website and Facebook and the interactiveness of persons living in the parish of St. James – we can help build a level of awareness; help persons prepare for what is likely to happen and while it is happening, and if they need assistance the webpage and Facebook will give us that opportunity to interact with them.”

Programme Officer at DEM, Danielle Skeete applauded the St. James Central DEO for their forward thinking and commitment to ensuring that all spheres of their community are kept informed with regards to hazard mitigation and preparedness. Moreover, she expressed that the launch is a clear indication of the organisation’s quest for excellence and their willingness to adapt to changes experienced over the last 15 years.

“It is pleasing to see that the St. James Central District Emergency Organisation understands, that if we do not change and adapt to the times within which we currently live, our expected results will never be what we want them to be. We cannot continue to do the same things, in the same way, in which we did in years prior and somehow expect to achieve different and better results,” she stressed.

“The Department of Emergency Management takes this opportunity, to publicly thank the St. James Central DEO for their 15 years of service to their community and by extension to the National Emergency Management System. The Department anticipates many more years of service from this District Emergency Organisation and stands committed to the furtherance of DEOs across the island.” (TL)
