SGBC next step for entrepreneurs

At a time when Barbados needs to seriously engage in a national discourse on ways to improve or aid in entrepreneurship, Spark Global Business Caribbean (SGBC) convened a seminar at just the right time.

Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development, Donville Inniss expressed during the SGBC Seminar, which was held at the Radisson Aquatica recently, that he believed that the discussion held at the seminar would significantly help young and old entrepreneurs to progress in their businesses.

Meanwhile, Roger Manners from SGBC noted that the aim for last Friday’s seminar was to enable the entrepreneurs in learning what it takes to be an entrepreneur as the world economy is difficult.

“I hope that in some small way Spark can contribute to Barbados and help it through this difficult time,” he said.

Manners explained that for many years, Spark has been instrumental in putting together ecosystems that significantly helped entrepreneurs to grow their businesses. He mentioned that through significant research it was revealed to them that in the island, entrepreneurs were only helped up to a certain stage with their businesses and revealed that it was Spark’s intention to be the next step so that they can offer the necessary support, expressing that yesterday’s workshop was to be viewed as a stepping stone.

He also explained that through looking at research carried out by the National Institute of Service Excellence, they took the results and used them to address the top challenges that Barbadian entrepreneurs encountered in their day-to-day business endeavours.

Neil Fogarty, founder of Spark Global Business Caribbean, stated that anyone can be an entrepreneur but explained that the resilient entrepreneurs were usually the ones that know where they want to go, see their value and build on it, are persistent, make their wants and needs clear but are grateful for the love they receive, create an interest and know the value of a dollar. He hoped that after the session, persons would be able to have a better understanding and grasp on what it takes to be an entrepreneur and how persons can grow their businesses.
