Set good examples, politicians told

IN light of the Barbadian political atmosphere seriously gearing up for the upcoming General Election, politicians are being called on to set good examples as they take to various platforms to get their message out to the electorate.

Delivering the sermon at the Whitepark Wesleyan Holiness Church, where members of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) gathered to celebrate Errol Barrow Memorial Day yesterday, Reverend Esther Willoughby preached that while “God wants us” to live a holy life, a holy atmosphere should be present everywhere, even at political meetings.

“If you want to see God you got to live a holy life. Holiness in the supermarket. Holy in your vehicles. Holiness at political meetings. Holiness in your homes. Holiness in your communities,” Willoughby preached.

“God is calling men and women, boys and girls to a life of holiness, so that we can work effectively for him,” she added.

Following the service, Willoughby told reporters that she was not picking on any particular politician, or political party, but stressed that those involved in politics need to set good examples for those watching them.

“In our speech, how we behave ourselves, how we carry ourselves. They have to set good examples for us to follow, especially young people. In our behaviour, in our speech, wherever they go,” she said.
