Security guards praised for good work

The Barbados Security Guards Service has as its vision to be recognised as an organisation whose members adhere to the strictest professional conduct as they carry out their duties in ensuring a safe and secure island.

This is according to the Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister, Senator Patrick Todd, who delivered remarks yesterday at  St. Paul’s Anglican Church at the Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate 40 years of the Government Security Guards Service.

He said that providing this type of environment for citizens to live, work and invest is just one of their responsibilities, as they are also well represented at national and other events.

“The vision of the Barbados Security Guards Service is to be recognised globally for its operational and administrative professionalism. Its mission is to provide a safe, secure and stable environment in which law abiding persons live, invest and do business. It is a disciplined, uniformed organisation whose drill squad over the years has attracted many admirers at activities such as the Annual Independence Day Parade, funerals and various other social events.”

In fact, at many institutions and companies around the island, whether public or private, these security guards can often be seen carrying out their responsibilities in protecting the people of this country, said the Minister of State.

“I am sure that as you conduct your daily business, you will recognise our security personnel at various government ministries, departments, health care institutions, post officers and primary schools across the island. These men and women are the eyes and ears of the organisations to which they are assigned and are often the first responders to any incident on site in all emergencies. They are also responsible for communicating emergency procedures, working closely with the Royal Barbados Police Force and for shepherding employees to safety,” Todd highlighted.

Therefore, as these security guards mark yet another milestone, it provides a golden opportunity to reflect on the past, appreciate the present and plan ahead for the future, said Todd.

“Fellow congregants, anniversary celebrations such as these provide timely opportunities for us to reflect on our past and plan for our future. They should cause us to remember where we came from, consider where we are at present, and plan for our future,” he added.
