Public Relations Manager at Sandals Barbados, David Hinds.

Sandals Royal expects to interview around 3 000 Barbadians for jobs

It is estimated that by the close of business today, approximately 3 000 Barbadians will have been interviewed for around 700 available positions that will be available when the Sandals Royal Barbados hotel opens its doors at the end of this year.

This is coming from the Public Relations Manager at Sandals Barbados, David Hinds, who spoke to The Barbados Advocate on day two of the Sandals Barbados job fair which took place at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre (LESC) yesterday.

He stated that they are looking to fill various positions at the hotel. “Today is the second day of the Sandals Royal Barbados job fair where currently we are searching for 700 talented Barbadians to fill various positions in our new and exciting hotel to be opened on December 20 of this year. Yesterday we would have done primarily the areas such as front office, maintenance, housekeeping, laundry and today we are going to focus on food and beverage and sales points, such as the gift shops and so on.”

Hinds stated that so far they have seen around 1 500 talented Barbadians who have interviewed for these positions and they also have management from the various Sandals locations in some of the other islands in the Caribbean that have come in to help out with the large numbers.

“So far, we have seen close to 1 500 Barbadians who have been interviewed for various posts and we are very happy about that. We have also had some help from our directors, some of whom have come in specifically for this job fair to assist us in helping us to find those special persons who will make a Sandals employee.”

Meanwhile, on Monday, they would have seen around 1 200 persons. In fact, day one of the job fair was received with so much anticipation that they had to open their doors about a half an hour earlier than the scheduled start time because of the crowds of people that had already started to gather outside the doors of the LESC, he said.

“Yesterday, we saw roughly about 1 200 persons. We had said 9 am, but we actually opened our doors around 8:30 am because of the crowd that was building. We opened a bit early and I think that helped speed up the process as well.”
The Public Relations Manager stated that they had a much better flow of persons yesterday.

“Today [Tuesday] is a much better flow I find. You know, food and beverage people have been coming in steady. We suspect that we will probably see close to 3 000 persons in all to fill those roughly 700 employees that we are looking for Sandals Royal Barbados. Now Sandals Royal Barbados will be the newest hotel in the Sandals chain. We have this concept now called ‘Stay at one, but play at two.’ So if you are an existing guest at Sandals Barbados, you are still
entitled to the amenities at Sandals Royal Barbados.”
