Salvation Army gearing up for Christmas activities

The Salvation Army has received permission to go ahead with its Christmas activities for this year and is therefore appreciative of a financial donation made recently, which will assist in kicking off its yuletide campaign.

Business Manager at the Salvation Army, Sherma Evelyn recently thanked Chief Executive Officer of the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited (ICBL), Geoff Scott for a monetary donation of $10,000 to the Army, during a virtual presentation held by the insurance company.

The Salvation Army was one of six local organisations receiving $10,000 each, to boost their activities and assist during this challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We at the Salvation Army appreciate this donation very much. We actually kick off our campaign  on the 5th of November, so this helps to start us right off. It gives us a very good start" Evelyn remarked.

She added, "Last year we did really well. This is our major fundraiser for the year and just recently we got permission to have our launch and with all of the protocols and so in place. So this actually kick starts all of the Christmas activities for us and we very much appreciative of this donation".

Evelyn meanwhile noted that the Salvation Army serves over 200 meals per day in the week and its facilities are used on weekends by other organisations to do feedings during lunchtime and hence, numerous persons will benefit from the timely donation.

Acknowledging that the pandemic has dealt a blow to the Army's initiatives on the whole, Evelyn said "All of the programmes have been affected in some way or the other, but we are very much appreciative of the ICBl donation to the Salvation Army and this donation will go a long way as we reach out to the wider community in Barbados, as we help them in various ways".

Last year, Evelyn reported that the Salvation Army made good progress with both its Christmas Red Kettle Appeal and its Mail Appeal projects, but the latter in particular yielded especially good monetary returns. The Salvation Army is hoping for a good Christmas season this year as well.
