Rotary West gifts truck to NFR

The Rotary Club of Barbados West is ensuring that the Nature Fun Ranch (NFR) has access to transportation to carry out its varied initiatives with at-risk youth.

Yesterday, a newly-branded truck acquired from the proceeds of the Diamonds International/Apes Hill Club, Rotary West 18th Annual Charity Golf Classic was presented to NFR Director Corey Layne.

This is the second vehicle that Rotary West has donated to NFR, which since 1999, has provided a safe environment that fosters holistic positive psychosocial development of its members through its long-term outdoor, unorthodox, educational, equestrian and fun-filled programme.

“We previously donated a vehicle to the Nature Fun Ranch and after discussions with its principal Corey, we realised that there were other needs. So, we decided that the proceeds of our Golf Classic would go towards another vehicle,” said President of Rotary West Morton Holder, during the presentation ceremony held at Apes Hill Country Club.

“What we have done is committed that we would assist in high-priority items, to ensure that at-risk youth will always have a place to go when it comes to the Nature Fun Ranch.”
Managing Director of Nassco Ltd., Roger Hill presented the keys to Layne commending the positive work of the charity.

“Nassco Ltd. is once again very pleased to be part of a donation of another vehicle to the Nature Fun Ranch. Corey and his team are doing a tremendous job for the youth in Barbados and it must be recognised. It is great to see Rotary West and other companies coming on board to present them with a second vehicle, and I am sure there is need for more, so more people can jump in and I am sure they will be grateful.”

David Alleyne, General Manager at Brydens Insurance shared the company’s readiness to help support the Rotary West initiative.

Having observed the work of the Nature Fun Ranch, he expressed “It supports youth which is an imperative that Brydens holds dear. We are going through a little issue as a country right now and we need all hands on board to help. Corey has been doing a great job and we think that the future of this island must be placed in a position where they have the tools and resources to help build our country.”

Layne thanked Rotary West and its sponsors for reaching out to the Nature Fun Ranch and understanding the value of the charity in the Barbadian society.

“When you hear the word ‘fun’ you may think ‘play’, but what we are doing is attracting those hard to reach at-risk young people and turning their lives around. We get at-risk young people and we are turning out citizens of excellence,” he pointed out.

“What you are witnessing here today is the newest youth reform and prevention intervention machine on the roads of Barbados. I say a big thank you to all involved.” (TL)
