THE General Secretary of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP), George Pilgrim, is accusing the Opposition Barbados Labour Party (BLP) of trying to paint the DLP candidate for The City in a negative light.

Pilgrim, while speaking to members of the media yesterday, in Bayville, St. Michael, where Williams was leading a team of volunteers in a clean-up effort, advised the new candidate not to be “deterred by the insults that continue to come at him and the people of The City from the Opposition”.

“The insults that are being hurled regarding his efforts are baseless. I have been to every single clean up that Mr. Williams has had, and I recognise that this effort is generated from the grassroots, and it is clearly a demonstration that The City has been mobilised under Mr. Williams,” he said.

“We said that we are camping out in The City. The Democratic Labour Party will not leave The City, until Mr. Williams is the elected Member of Parliament.
“He has been doing the work, and I want to urge the residents to pay attention to who is paying attention to you,” Pilgrim added.

The General Secretary announced that on Wednesday, January 31, at 6 p.m., the DLP will be unveiling Williams’ campaign headquarters, based at Evelyn Avenue. The headquarters will be called The Yellow House.

“It is the first time to my knowledge that a campaign headquarters is being set up in this geographical area of The City.

“I want to commend Mr. Williams once again for paying attention, not just to New Orleans, or to that part of The City, but the entire City. This building will become a focal point for people in this area, for planning, socialising and organising,” he said. (AH)
