Most outstanding CSEC student for 2015-2016, Chloe Sargeant received awards for her CSEC performance in English Language, EDPM, Office Administration, Principles of Business and Social Studies.

Proud of students’ achievements

At a time when most of the news reported in the media is negative, it is refreshing to have instances reported that showcase the positive achievements of students in their academic and social lives.

Speaking during the St. George Secondary School’s Speech Day awards ceremony, old scholar, Roger Ward noted that it was extremely satisfying to see so many of the students present receive awards for the hard work they put into their school work during the past academic year, 2015-2016.

He went on to say that he was pleased with the chosen theme – “One dream, One team, One win” – as it signified that working, learning and achieving together must be the trademark for our future success.

“Very few of us, if any at all, possess all of the necessary resources to achieve our desired objective singularly and we therefore must rely on the support of others,” he said.

Additionally, Ward encouraged students to use the S.W.O.T approach in life to help them in their future endeavours. He explained that it was important for them to understand what their Strengths and Weaknesses are and develop the ability to identify between the Opportunities and Threats that they will face in life. He added that using S.W.O.T in a personal context will help them to analyse ways to develop their career and take advantage of their talents, abilities and opportunities.

He went on to say that the level of violence, lawlessness, deviance, truancy and the misuse of social media being portrayed by some of the students across the school system must be “condemned” and urged students to view school and their education as a priority and as a tool for their success. He encouraged them to use the time spent in schools wisely so that they can achieve their dreams in life and noted that it was important for them to be strategic, have manageable goals that are attainable, realistic and bound by time.
