Positive response to loan, mortgage services

A local bank is reporting a positive response from the public to its loan and mortgage services.

Director of Retail Banking Channels with CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank, Michelle Whitelaw, further told the media yesterday that the bank has been holding its own and it has been “meeting the competition”. She also pointed out that the bank has a “95 per cent financing right now on our mortgages”.

“I am sure if you look into the paper you would see lots more ads with CIBC FirstCaribbean, so we are out there really. We have the competitive edge and people are coming.”

She added, “The response has been very good. We have reached out to not just our existing clients, but to new clients as well. What I would want to say is as recent as last night, we actually had what we would call a mix and mingle with clients who we are just trying to encourage them now to also come over to us. So the response has been very, very, very good.”

Whitelaw was speaking to the media at the bank’s Warrens branch. There, individuals conducting business in the bank were treated to a Valentine’s Day presentation – ‘Celebrate Love and Celebrate Homeowner-ship’. A cheque in the sum of Bds$1 000 was the prize presented to Dr. Chrisita Powlett; she is a recipient of a mortgage from the bank. Her mom, Cheryl Powlett, collected on the day on her behalf.

Whitelaw said the day’s presentation is one of “many surprises” that will be occurring this month.

“You would have noticed today we did a presentation to one of our clients. Her mom accepted on her behalf a cheque for BDS$1 000, which will be spent at one of the distributors here today on display, Standards. So she gets to purchase something from Standards today to furnish her home. So at CIBC FirstCaribbean, from February 1st to 28th, we are celebrating love, celebrating homeownership for our clients and not just in February, we do that every day of the year.”
