Barbadians being urged to identify dump sites

The Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) is pressing ahead with a project which will see the organisation getting assistance from the Barbadian public in mapping “unregulated dump sites” to enable an islandwide clean up.

Jamilla Sealy, Regional Chairperson of CYEN and Project Coordinator for CYEN in Barbados, says so far her organisation has been able to complete a more detailed project focusing on Historic Bridgetown and its Garrison, and the results will soon be revealed.

Sealy, who recently won the Queen’s Young Leaders Award for the Unregulated Garbage Disposal Site Project, has meanwhile noted that all Barbadians are invited to help CYEN in mapping all illegal or unregulated dump sites across the island, as the Youth Network is hoping to be able to complete the identification process by year end so it can proceed with its clean-up efforts.

“We want to do the entire island, but we will need persons to tell us where the dumpsites are,” Sealy said.

“I would like to finish by year end, but it will be something that will be ongoing. So we would like people to call us and let us know if you see any illegal dump sites, so we can eventually clean them up,” Sealy commented.
