PM: Bright future ahead

The future is bright for Barbados.

So assured the Prime Minister of Barbados, the Hon. Mia Amor Mottley, as she delivered the featured address yesterday evening during the second day of the Barbados Labour Party’s 81st Annual Conference that took place at Queen’s Park.

“When I say to you Barbados will make it, believe you me, Barbados will make it,” she said.

During her address the Prime Minister revealed a plethora of projects that her Government intends to undertake

during their time in Government, including a reform of the Barbados Secondary School Entrance Examination, new trucks for the Sanitation Service Authority and transformation of the Hilton Hotel.

She said that it was not only the education or tourism sector that was thriving, but the agriculture sector would thrive as well, as they were seeking to find ways for the sugar factory to be operating year round. In addition to this, she noted that they were seeking to determine the future of the sugar industry in Barbados over the next two to three months.

“These are the things that your Government is working assiduously on, so when they tell you that the Cabinet is too large, it is large but in charge and working,” she said.

“So, when you ask me why I am working so hard or why my Ministers are working so hard, or why you may not always see them, you now understand the nature of the challenge and what we must do.”

She was proud to note that Barbados’ standing in the region was making a comeback, as persons were now happy to engage with Barbados, adding that sometimes, they have to tell companies “hold tight, we can’t do it all”.

“And when I say to you in the communities, you have to be the leaders, yes we have not helped everybody that we can help, but what I can tell you is that everything that was announced within the last hour and a half will make every body get work. But you can’t get it overnight and that is why we say stay the course,” she lamented.

“We are passing all the right road signs, we are seeing all the right things, we are on our way with all due respect to all previous BLP previous Governments…We are on our way to bringing about the greatest transformation since independence.”
