People’s Cathedral Primary hosts annual science fair

Charged with the task to develop the minds of the youth, the Principal, teachers and staff of the People’s Cathedral Primary School hosted their annual science fair under the theme, ‘Exploring God’s Wonderful Creation through Science.’

Speaking with The Barbados Advocate on Friday at the school, Principal of the institution, Heather Bryan expressed that it was their vision at the school to help their students develop in mind, body and soul and noted that they hoped to achieve that through the hosting of the science fairs.

“God has given us that inquisitive nature, that is something innate in us and as adults, whose care these children are entrusted into, it is for us to sort of mold and shape that inquisitiveness into an area where they can branch out, and here today they are exploring science,” she said.

“They see things happening all around them and you can hear the child asking ‘but why?’ and ‘what is this?’ and ‘where did this come from?’. So rather than us quelling that desire to explore and to find out, what we should do is motivate them to be creative and go out there and explore and what better way than through science.”

She explained that the idea behind the theme this year was to show them that when God created the world it was for men to explore and that is something we want them to do as well.

Furthermore, learning to express themselves is something that the Principal noted was important for them to develop and presenting their science projects at the fair was a great way to do such.

“This is another area that we are tapping into; being able to express themselves,” she said.

“I’m sure that sometimes we would see an athlete who would have performed extremely well but when they are asked to say something, they either shy away or when they begin to speak, we cringe. So we want to avoid that and you would see that when questioned about something that they would have done, the students are able to express it and express it grammatically correct.”
