Parliament resumes today

 

DEBATE will resume in the Lower Chamber of the House of Assembly today after a two-month break.
 
This after the Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals led by Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Christopher Sinckler on August 16, were dissected and debated for three days in the Lower House.
 
Today’s 90th sitting includes a number of land resolutions as well as a move to pass a Resolution to approve the Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries (Remuneration and Allowances) Order as well as the Senate and the House of Assembly.
 
The Order Paper also includes three substantial money resolutions including a resolution to grant the sum of $33 11627 from the Consolidated Fund and to place it at the disposal of the Government to supplement the Estimates 2016-2017.
 
Also on the Order Paper is a move to pass a Resolution to approve the guarantee by the Minister of Finance of the payment of the principal and interest in respect of the issuance of a bond in the sum of up $73 million or its USD equivalent arranged by ANSA Merchant Bank Ltd for the purpose of providing working capital support to the Barbados Agricultural Management Co Ltd and to provide funding to the company’s expenses and costs relating to the Barbados Cane Industry Support Project.
 
It includes a move to pass a Resolution to grant the sum of $50 million from the Consolidated Fund to place it at the disposal of the Government to supplement the Estimates 2016-2017.
 
There is also a move to pass a Resolution that the Parliament of Barbados accepts the Barbados Green Economy Scoping Study as a national information study, that it should be made available to the public and reaffirming its commitment to ensure Barbados remains on a path of sustainable development.
