organisations RECEIVE fUNDING boost from ICBL

The Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited (ICBL) has provided a much needed financial boost to six local organisations, to help them carry on with their programmes in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

ICBL hosted a virtual presentation ceremony yesterday to  hand over a total of Bds $60,000 to the organisations and institutions. The Challenor School, The Salvation Army, The Red Cross, The Barbados Cancer Society, The Barbados Diabetes Foundation and The Heart and Stroke Foundation each received Bds $10,000.

Chief Executive Officer of  ICBL, Geoff Scott, in delivering remarks ahead of the virtual presentation of cheques to the presidents or representatives of each organisation, stressed that his company made a commitment from inception to support communities here in Barbados.

“We are passionate about this promise because you are the reason that we are here. ICBL is more than just a company, we are about people – our employees, our policyholders and our partners and we are about the communities in which we operate. We will always welcome opportunities to show our gratitude to the organisations that provide services for those in need and by your acceptance of this donation today, you are actually in fact helping us to honour our commitment,” Scott remarked.

He added, “The past two years have been particularly challenging for many groups in the country and noticeably so for non-profit organisations and institutions like yours. It’s for this reason that we are hopeful that the funds donated here today can help to progress your programmes, so that you may continue to provide the much needed services that you are known for.”

Accepting the monetary donations on behalf of the requisite organisations were, Marcia Brathwaite for The Challenor School; Sherma Evelyn for The Salvation Army; Danielle Toppin for The Red Cross; Michelle Straughn on the behalf of the Barbados Cancer Society; Cally Boyea for the Barbados Diabetes Foundation; and Michelle Daniel for The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Barbados. The representatives all agreed that the past few months have been difficult given the pandemic and the financial assistance will help them to boost their various programmes.

Generally, these programmes combined include assisting children with special needs, providing individuals and families in need with meals, providing aid to vulnerable individuals and communities, assisting persons battling breast cancer and other  types of cancer, helping diabetics and bringing greater awareness about diabetes in Barbados, and creating greater awareness about the need to prevent the onset of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) as well as assisting those already affected by NCDs, respectively.
