Nine honoured

NINE outstanding Barbadians from a variety of professions have been honoured in the 2018 New Year Honours List, from Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

Three have been awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). Charles Livingston Smith has been awarded the honour for his service to the public service; former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Shirley Farnum has been recognised, also for her work in the public service; while former District Superintendent of the Nazarene Church, Barbados District, Reverend Dr. Orlando Seale was noted for his contribution to religious education.

President of the Barbados Workers’ Union, Linda Brooks has been honoured for her contribution to the Labour Movement with the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). She will be joined by another stalwart in the Trade Union Movement - President of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations (CTUSAB), Cedric Murrell, who has also been awarded the OBE for his contribution to the Labour Movement, while Carlton Hinds has earned the honour for his contribution to the catering industry.

Two former fire chiefs have been awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for long service to the Barbados Fire Service. Velmo Cadogan and Clifford Clarke, who both offered exceptional service to the development of the critical organisation, will be joined by Alvin Carter who is honoured for his services to education.
